POSITION:
Senior Director of Internal Communications
PURPOSE:
To provide the overall direction, communications strategy, programs and signage/design for all brands for internal communications.
SCOPE:
We are seeking to find a marketing/communications professional who will use the tools of the marketing discipline to help us attract, retain, acculturate, understand and inform our internal and potential external workforce. This individual will field research to understand what it is to be "employer of choice" in our industry, apply rigor and discipline in internal research efforts, translate the findings into recommended actions and work in partnership with internal departments and external resources to implement the recommendations. He/she will be asked to create/reinforce the employment "brand" so that it is aligned and synergistic with the overall Company brand.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports directly to the President
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must have a Bachelors degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field or the equivalent experience
· Must have 7 years experience in multi-unit and service and/or retail, Internal/corporate communications and budgeting with 5 years supervisory experience. Social Media experience preferred
· Must possess a thorough knowledge of all the multi-channel facets of communications and have demonstrated strategic planning skills
· Team player with the confidence to take the lead to guide others. Must be highly collaborative and possess excellent written and verbal communications skills to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external groups, and possess the skills to negotiate contracts and problem solve
· Must possess the ability to formulate communications strategy using research, analysis, segmentation, trends, customer insights and past results
· Must be able to lead department and company in the planning, directing, execution and analysis of programs with sense of urgency, clarity, and results
· Must possess the ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Internal Communications
1. Work closely with Marketing to create a strategy to further develop and execute each “employment” Brand creative and cultural communications, including but not limited to Town Hall scripts, leadership and special event scripts, Brand magazines, eSource, video content and production
2. Ensure involvement and approvals of appropriate levels of supervision in all internal communications, in particular leveraging founder, co-founder, President and VP of Operations for all brands where appropriate
3. Work cross functionally to formulate cohesive communications with consistent messages integrated across channels
Social Media
1. Work closely to lead Social Media team to develop a roadmap and approach with adoption of relevant social media techniques and platforms to promote all brands
2. Create and maintain social media content to assist local outlet’s and leaders in marketing themselves and the brands appropriately
3. Create and maintain social media content to engage customers and connection to the brand
Leadership
1. Builds, develops and leads a team capable of carrying the responsibilities of the department and strategic and annual goals.
2. Motivates, coaches, leads and develops department Associates
3. As part of senior leadership team provides guidance over the maintenance of our company values and culture
4. Actively supports and models the company’s values and leadership competencies
5. Creates and maintains a positive and inclusive work environment
6. Establishes individual performance plans and regular feedback, conducts annual performance evaluations, recommends compensation adjustments as appropriate and proactively manages poor performance
Partner with Senior Director of Marketing, Strategy and Branding to define and deliver on sub departments responsibilities and contributions to:
Strategic brand positioning and communications
1. Develop and implement annual communications and creative development plans, strategies, metrics and tactical support for promotional elements, creative design/brand personality and public relations to drive sales performance, guiding team members to set up results measurement
2. Develop and implement departmental vision and goals through proactive leadership
3. Participate as rotating management team member to develop and implement corporate goals.
Communications Planning and Administration
1. Develop the annual Internal Communications plan to grow and sustain the culture at every Associate touch point
2. Develop a systemic and synergistic approach between internal communications and recruiting communications with advertising, retail product sales, promotions, public relations, customer acquisition, retention and satisfaction and charity affiliations
3. Prepare and administer annual departmental budget to remain on target and in support of corporate objectives.
Promotional and Engagement Strategy
1. Monitor reports, track program and results and communicate to internal departments
2. Monitor budgets to be sure all activities reach goals and remain on target
Senior Leadership Team
1. Work closely with Executive Committee and take leadership of developing communications strategies in areas in support of our corporate objectives and stewardship of the brand
2. Take leadership role in developing communication to update Executive Committee on all communications and social media initiatives
3. Bring the Associates’ perspective to the table via multi-channel feedback
